Twenty One Pilots – Clancy (Top Albums 2024)

· by Jacob Langlois-Pelletier

Few artists reinvent themselves as much as the duo Twenty One Pilots. With each album, the two Americans offer a new range of sounds and a different atmosphere. This time with Clancy, Tyler Joseph, and Josh Dun paint the walls of a post-apocalyptic world. Since 2015’s Blurryface, the pair have been telling a fictional story; their latest offering feels like the latest chapter in that saga.

On this project, the pair incorporate electro, synthpop, and rock elements to their usual alternative rap. “Vignette,” the middle track, is the best example of the direction the duo took when creating the album. Clancy‘s eclecticism brings a variety of moods to life; while the pace is frantic on “Next Semester,” “The Craving (Jenna’s version)” is a guitar-vocal ballad that allows you to take a breather.

One of the greatest qualities of Twenty One Pilots is definitely their unpredictability. Just when you think you’ve grasped the essence of a track, they manage to take you on a journey every time. Each track has its own charm and presents a different facet of TØP.

Tyler Joseph’s vocal skills shine throughout Clancy, in both the raps and the more sing-songy moments. In fact, it’s on the more sung tracks like “Paladin Strait” and “Routines In The Night” that the catchiest choruses are to be found. Clancy may not rank at the top of their seven-album discography, but it’s certainly in the top 3—a must-have album of 2024.
